WARREN (WWJ) - An 8-year-old and a 10-year-old were electrocuted after coming into contact with live wire outside a school in Warren on Tuesday morning, officials confirmed.
Warren Police Commissioner William Dwyer told WWJ that an 8-year-old boy was shocked by a live wire near McKinley Elementary School, in the area of Toepfer and Sharrow around 9:15 a.m.
Dwyer said police patrolling the area on a different call for service saw the boy touch the wire and were on scene "within seconds" to pull the child off.
Officials said in a later press release that the boy's 10-year-old brother was also injured from active power line.
According to Warren Police, the younger boy grabbed the wire because "he wanted to swing" from it. His 10-year-old brother realized something was wrong and tried to get him off, but was shocked as he did so.

“It was the 10-year-old, along with the two officers, that were all three, quite frankly, trying to save the life of the 8-year-old,” Dwyer said in a press conference on Tuesday.
An intersection near the school was blocked as police transported the 8-year-old in squad car to St. John Hospital in Detroit.
Dwyer said the boy was then transferred to Children’s Hospital for further emergency medical care.
The 8-year-old is listed in critical condition with severe burns.
The 10-year-old was also taken to St. John Main Hospital in Detroit where he is said to be in stable condition. The parents were notified by police and are with the children at the hospital.
Officers who grabbed the 8-year-old from the live wire are also being medically evaluated, Dwyer added.

The police commissioner told WWJ the wire was dangling around 4 feet off the ground and is estimated to contain around 4,800 volts of electricity -- McKinley Elementary School was closed for the day due to a power outage.
"The Warren Police Department, Warren Fire Department, and DTE are all on scene conducting a further investigation into this incident as this is an active investigation," police said in a press release.
"Commissioner Dwyer commended the quick-thinking and brave actions of the patrol officers in this incident who risked their own lives to remove the child from the power line and rush him to an area hospital. Commissioner Dwyer stated that this is a terrible tragedy for the children and their family."
The latest incident comes after a 14-year-old girl died in Macomb County when she touched a live wire in her backyard after severe storms knocked down trees and power lines Monday evening.
Some areas saw wind gusts of up to 74 mph, officials said. The storms left more than 230,000 DTE Energy customers without power.
