A Drilling machine slipped into a five hundred meter deep ditch due to sudden subsidence that took place at Dahibari coal mines of CV area  of BCCL under Nirsa police station early Thursday morning.

Cracks have appeared on around 400 meter surface due to subsidence .The road leading to the coal mine viewpoint was completely damaged due to subsidence that took place with a huge bang.

Incidentally, there was no loss of life as the day shift had not started . Besides, several electrical poles too were uprooted due to the  incident .Company guards on duty rushed for safe locations due to the incident as they were surrounded by sparking electrical wires of subsided poles.

This happens to be the third incident  of subsidence in the locality. First was reported on August 10 and about four days ago the road leading to Thaparnagar  station too had subsided at different locations.

The BCCL authorities had directed  for removing the heavy machines from the area on August 10 itself but before those could be removed a major subsidence took place today causing machinery loss to the company.

Notices have been served to all BCCL  employees residing in the area to vacate  company quarters and to shift to safe locations. Similar notice has been given  to private   persons of the locality.

Though  incidents subsidence often are on rise during monsoon, company authorities claim that geological disturbances due to unscientific mining during pre -nationalisation in Kalamati area are main causes of subsidence now.

Senior BCCL officers and local police have reached the incident spot and are persuading locals to shift to safe locations .
